Recycled

The amount of material collected, separated or otherwise recovered from a waste stream for use in the form of raw materials, in the manufacture or assembly of a new package or product. Certification preferred. Note: If you see a recycled icon on a product, Source4Style will denote what percentage (%) of the material contains recycled content - and whether it is post consumer recycled content and/or pre consumer recycled content.

- Post-consumer Recycled Content A material or finished product that has served its intended use and has been diverted or recovered from waste destined for disposal, having completed its life as a consumer item. Post-consumer materials are part of the broader category of recovered materials. Note: When comparing post- and pre-consumer recycled content, post-consumer is preferred.

- Pre-consumer Recycled Content Materials generated in manufacturing and converting processes, such as manufacturing scrap and trimmings/ cuttings. Note: When comparing post- and pre-consumer recycled content, post-consumer is preferred.

Organic

Grown without the use of GMO seed, synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers or exfoliants at any point during its growing season. For animal fibers no feed can be treated with synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers, and there can only be restricted use of antibiotics and growth hormones, and must follow strict animal husbandry guidelines. Certification necessary. Note: If you seen an organic icon on product, Source4Style will denote what percent (%) of material is certified organic.

Fair Trade

A product that is produced in transparent and ethical conditions, which includes fair payment for producers and reinvestment into the social- and environmental-welfare of the community Product is most often certified by the Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO), the International Federation for Alternative Trade. Certification preferred.

Hand Made or Hand Crafted

A product or material that has been made or prepared by hand or by a hand process rather than a machine.

Crafts Preservation

A unique and proficient skill that is steeped in cultural, traditional and historical relevance that is often endemic to a specific group of people, cultural sect, or region.

Vertically Integrated

A form of business organization in which all stages of production of a good, from the acquisition of raw materials to the final saleable product, are controlled by one company and are contained in one local region.
